Ariana Madix isn't just inviting other women in the midst of "the briny muck" of a breakup to drown their sorrows — she's providing the recipe.

Madix's forthcoming book Single AF Cocktails: Drinks for Bad B*tches (out Dec. 5) is a labor of love–turned–hate. Written in the fallout of her shocking discovery in March that her then-boyfriend Tom Sandoval had been having an affair with her friend and Vanderpump Rules castmate Rachel "Raquel" Leviss, the book chronicles the highs and "new lows" of the couple's nine-year relationship.

Since then, the Bravo star has been reclaiming her voice, her story and her power — despite a seeming deluge of revelations about Sandoval, 41, and the months-long entanglement with Leviss, 29, he carried out just under the radar.

One such revelation centered on speculation about a secret name Sandoval was using in his phone to cover up his illicit messages with Leviss. In Single AF Cocktails, Madix confirms that her ex was, indeed, "so committed to this double life that he used 'Jamie' as a code name for her in his phone."

As she shares early in the book, one of the key bonding moments with Sandoval was when he comforted her — as a friend — when her father died suddenly of a heart attack in August 2013. With that in mind, she explains why the name "Jamie" cut especially deep.

"The worst part is that my dad’s name was James, may he rest in peace," Madix, 38, writes. "Imagine seeing a screenshot of a text in which he tells a friend how he 'took Jamie to the mile high club.' For him to use my dad’s name for her was a level of disrespect I didn’t realize was possible."

Talking to PEOPLE about her decision to include such "vulnerable," raw memories from the last year, Madix says, "The majority of my life is off camera, so that's, I think, something that people will never see."

Describing Sandoval's deception, she continues, "We're talking 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 30, 31 days a month of day in, day out, moment-to-moment, lies, deception and gaslighting and horrible treatment."

"There's so many things like that," she adds, "and there's definitely not room in the cocktail book to write them all."

JAMIE
A Dirty as Hell Martini

Serves 1

2 1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 to 3/4 oz. olive juice, to your liking
Ice cubes
Olives or pickled onions, to garnish

  • Combine the vodka and olive juice in a mixing glass with ice and stir to chill

  • Use a straw to taste the drink and make sure you are happy with the amount of olive juice included

  • If you like it extra extra dirty, add a little more!

  • Garnish with a skewer of olives (my personal favorite), pickled cocktail onions, or hell, you could do both

In contrast to the elegant Vesper-inspired martini that began our story, this one is as dirty as it gets, perfect for when you’re feeling the briny muck of your breakup.

Throughout the affair, he did a lot of s--- to me that was dirty as hell, but some things really felt like new lows. He had told me time and time again that he wasn’t trying to hide anything from me whenever I would ask about little things here and there. But it turns out he was taking many steps to cover the whole thing up. He was so committed to this double life that he used “Jamie” as a code name for her in his phone.

The worst part is that my dad’s name was James, may he rest in peace. Imagine seeing a screenshot of a text in which he tells a friend how he “took Jamie to the mile high club.” For him to use my dad’s name for her was a level of disrespect I didn’t realize was possible.
