Over the last few years, it feels like every celebrity has stepped into the ring to unveil their own cosmetics line. From achieving Rihanna's glow to securing Kylie's signature pout, it's never been easier to recreate your favorite red carpet looks with the exact same products.

When it comes to popstar Ariana Grande, the Boca Raton native has made waves with her brand "r.e.m. beauty." Yet, how does it compare to the other celebrity brands dominating the makeup market?

The beauty and wellness marketplace website Fresha looked at the average monthly search volume for each beauty brand, the Instagram following of each official account, TikTok posts, and the number of views on each TikTok hashtag. They then found an overall beauty index score that was then calculated from each variable to find the most popular celebrity beauty brand.

“Celebrity-owned beauty brands allow fans the opportunity to use products designed by people they admire and support. Knowing which brands to invest in can be difficult when so many are currently out there," founder and CEO of Fresha William Zeqiri said in a news release. "However, this list can give beauty fans an idea of what everyone is searching for and can offer an insight into what is being endorsed and enjoyed the most on social media.”

What is r.e.m. beauty?

r.e.m. beauty is a line of retro-inspired eye, face, and lip makeup products founded by Grande is 2021. With products that are vegan-friendly and packaged in recyclable materials, Grande’s vision was to create a brand that encouraged creativity and self-expression.

Earlier this year, Grande purchased r.e.m. beauty's assets from Forma for an estimated $15 million, hiring Murad and Smashbox veteran Michelle Shigemasa as their new CEO.

Why is it called r.e.m. beauty?

The name comes from Grande's song of her 2018 "Sweetner" album, serving as the inspiration for the brand's name. Brand officials also claim the name is an apparent reference to Rapid Eye Movement sleep, a period of rest when vivid dreams happen.

“'R.E.M.' encompasses a lot of my favorite parts of my sound. But also eyes and dreams and our most effective communicators," Ariana told Teen Vogue when the brand launched in 2021. “You can say more with the way you look at someone than you can articulate with words sometimes. They’re what we use to dream, rest... and so much beauty happens there.”
