Ariana DeBose did not appreciate a joke made about her at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.

During Sunday's awards ceremony, DeBose's name was inserted into the punchline of a joke presenters Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos made while they presented the ceremony's award for best song. (DeBose's Disney movie Wish received a nomination for the song "This Wish.")

While ribbing the nominees onstage, Ramsey, 19, listed DeBose, Jack Black and Ryan Gosling as "actors who also think they are singers" while reading off a teleprompter. As the camera cut to DeBose, an Academy Award winner for 2021's West Side Story, Tony Award nominee and longtime Broadway star, the actor appeared momentarily confused by the joke before smiling and laughing.

After the ceremony, DeBose, 32, wrote on her Instagram Story: "No I didn't find it funny. Lol."

Last February, DeBose performed a musical number at the 2023 BAFTA Awards that shared praise for a number of women nominated for awards and subsequently went viral after the ceremony. While DeBose eventually joked about the unexpectedly viral rap, she did appear to deactivate her Twitter account after social media users criticized her for the performance at the time.
