Javier Milei splits with ‘lioness’ girlfriend over work pressure

Argentina’s firebrand president Javier Milei has announced he has ended his relationship with his glamorous actress and comedian girlfriend due to their conflicting work schedules.
The 53-year-old Right-wing leader said he and Fatima Florez, who called herself his “lioness”, would remain just friends.
“As a result of the overwhelming professional success that Fatima, of whom I am extremely proud, is experiencing, she has received numerous job offers to work both in the United States and in Europe,” wrote Mr Milei on social media.
“This, added to the complex task that I am facing today and that the Argentines have entrusted me with, has led us to live apart, making it impossible for us to have the relationship as a couple that we would like to have, despite how much we love each other.
“That is why we decided to end our relationship and maintain a bond of friendship given how much we feel for each other and how much we love, respect and admire each other.”
Married for 22 years
Mr Milei started dating the 43-year-old daughter of an architect in July last year, after they met on a chat show the previous December while she was still married to her husband of 22 years.
Ms Florez, who boasts 1.4 million followers on Instagram, said in January that she was “hooked on Javier”.
The charismatic comedian said in an interview with The Times at the start of the year: “Even when we are far apart, we are very close. And when we are close, we are close, we are explosive, explosive, you know what I mean?”
But speculation the couple had been drifting apart had been growing in their homeland.
Ms Florez has yet to offer any reaction to her ex’s announcement of their split. The couple were last photographed together in Miami on Wednesday at an event organised by the local Jewish community.
Roadmap to take over Falklands
At the start of this month, Mr Milei vowed to establish a diplomatic “roadmap” towards the United Kingdom handing over sovereignty of the Falkland Islands to South America.
He reiterated his nation’s “unwavering claim for the islands” and took a swipe at his predecessors for “mere words [spoken in] international forums with no impact on reality”.
Mr Milei spoke during a ceremony in Buenos Aires to mark the 42nd anniversary of the start of the conflict between Argentina and the UK over the territory.
