From the Archives: March 26 in the Pioneer

Mar. 26—March 26, 2012 — In addition to its main site, the Bemidji Community Food Shelf has about a half-dozen storage locations sprinkled throughout the area. It simply has outgrown its current space. Supporters now are planning to relocate the operation to a much larger facility in the Industrial Park located at 1260 Industrial Park Drive SE.

March 26, 1997 — If the squeaky wheel gets the grease, Bemidji officials can take some of the credit for a drastic airfare reduction implemented by Northwest Airlines. Now through Sept. 30, fares between the Twin Cities and Bemidji, Brainerd, Hibbing, Grand Rapids and St. Cloud will be $99 for a one-way, walk-up ticket or $69 each way for a 21-day advance purchase ticket.

March 26, 1972 — Bemidji's new Horace May Elementary School is located in a rural area, but that is where the similarity with the country schools of the past ends. Construction on the new school, located two miles south of Bemidji on Highway 71, is nearing completion and the new building will be ready for its projected 350 students when schools open next fall.

March 26, 1922 — As far as is known at the present time, the public hearing scheduled to be held in Bemidji for the purpose of hearing arguments for and against a lower freight rate on fuel wood will be next Tuesday at the Markham hotel at 10 o'clock. The hearing is a result of a formal complaint filed by Charles S. Carter of Hines several weeks ago.
