In an exclusive interview with ANI, Zoya Akhtar spoke regarding the sequel to the 2011 hit. She revealed that the sequel to the slice-of-life masterpiece is not uncommon and that interest remains high among both the cast and crew members. The director expressed her own enthusiasm, stating, “Yes, this comes up all the time, and everybody is interested.”

She also emphasized the importance of maintaining the essence of the original film, stating, “That movie meant a lot to us. So, if we find that soul for part two, we will make it. We don’t want to do it just for money. When the audience comes to watch the second part, they will have a certain expectation, and we must give it to them; otherwise, they won’t be happy.”

Furthermore, in a previous exclusive interview, Zoya Akhtar hinted at her intentions to create a sequel. She expressed that her intention of making a sequel goes beyond mere capitalization on the franchise. “Yes, if I find a story which is more than the fact that it is a franchise capitalizing on and if it’s a real story that needs to be told, I will definitely,” she remarked.
