July is going to be a big month for the youngest member of the British royal family, little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Why? It’s his christening. The turnout will be intimate, with only friends and family nabbing invites. However, it looks like Queen Elizabeth won’t attend Archie’s christening. What gives, great-grandma Elizabeth?

According to The Daily Mail, Elizabeth’s absence from Archie’s christening is in no way a slight to him or his parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. Instead, Elizabeth “will be absent on other duties”. although her exact whereabouts are still unknown. Unfortunately, just because she’s Archie’s great-grandmother doesn’t mean she’s suddenly surrendered being a ruler. This isn’t the first time Elizabeth has missed a great-grandchild’s christening, though. In 2018, she was unable to attend Prince Louis’s christening — so at least Archie has someone to commiserate with about this in the years to come.

But The Daily Mail has also confirmed Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will be stepping in to host the royal event and share in the delights of the day with Harry, Meghan, Archie and the rest of the family. The christening will be held at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, the same chapel where Archie’s parents were married a little over a year ago. How sweet is that? Additionally, Harry and Meghan will confirm who they have chosen to be Archie’s godparents shortly before the christening. Those godparents, who we already know will not be Archie’s uncle and aunt, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, will likely be photographed on their way into the chapel, adding to the excitement of the day.

So, even though Elizabeth will be absent, it doesn’t mean there won’t be tons of fun and love going around at Archie’s christening. Hopefully, Elizabeth makes up for lost time and visits with Archie, Meghan and Harry once she gets back so she can hear all about how it went.
