Apple or pumpkin? Maybe both? 13 places in RI to score your Thanksgiving pie
What's a Thanksgiving table without pie? Sad.
The holiday feast demands a dramatic finish. You don't have to eat dessert right after you've enjoyed the turkey and stuffing. But you have to have it ready for later, perhaps after a family walk or maybe a nap. Guests will be craving apple, pumpkin, chocolate cream and pecan along with fruit tarts and the occasional crumb.
If baking isn't your thing, or you are busy making the rest of the complicated meal, you will find many wonderful pies to buy at a pastry shop or in Rhode Island. The pies come from artisan bakers, gluten-free specialists and even vegan cafes.
There are biggies such as Gregg's Restaurants, whose central kitchen makes thousands of pies. Wright's Dairy Farm and Bakery also produces a crazy number of pies, made with milk from their North Smithfield farm.
You'll find prices range from just under $20 with many in the $30 to $40 range. It's all good and something we should all be thankful for, But that's only if you get your order in very soon, and pick up at the designated time.
