More from Rolling Stone

Currently on sale for just $500, the 5th-generation Apple iPad Air boasts an M1 chip, which is required to run Final Cut Pro and will help Logic Pro run quickly. If you only need to run Logic Pro (and not Final Cut Pro), you can pick up the 9th-gen iPad, which is currently on sale for just $270. Just be sure to act fast on either deal; iPads are always in high demand and discounts typically don’t last long.

Available on the app store starting May 23, the iPad versions of both Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro will have special tweaks for use with the Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Folio. Plus, with Final Cut Pro, you’ll be able to draw on your video content using an Apple Pencil.

The programs will both cost either $5 a month or $50 a year to run on your iPad. But there are some hardware requirements: Final Cut Pro will require one of Apple’s high-performance iPads, equipped with an M1 or M2 chip (like the discounted 5th-gen iPad Air), while Logic Pro will require at least an A12 Bionic chip (like the discounted $270 9th-gen iPad).

Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro coming to iPad is obviously a boon for tablet users, but it’s also a huge draw for anyone still using a MacBook to edit video or sound. Previously, iPads weren’t capable of running professional software like this, but now you might not even need a MacBook. And, given the iPad’s touchscreen and weight (the Air is just a pound), you might not want a MacBook anymore.

Head to Amazon to pick up a 5th-gen iPad Air while it’s on sale, and be ready to download Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on your new device.

What Are the Best Apple iPad Deals?

Looking for other ways to score an iPad deal? Here are some ways to get the Apple tablet at a discount online.

1. Shop Sales At Other Retailers

Apple may not discount the iPad, but other retailers like Amazon, Walmart, B&H, Adorama, and Best Buy do. These discounts are sometimes part of a larger deals event like Black Friday, but many times they drop the iPad’s price discreetly, so check back often.

The only issue with shopping for an iPad while it’s on sale is waiting too long. Stock is always limited, demand is always high, and the deal could end at any time.

If you see the iPad you want is on sale right now, take advantage of the deal while you can. Target also currently has the 9th-generation iPad on sale at the $269 price point and it’s available for store pickup or home delivery.

2. Buy Refurbished

Getting refurbished tech online — especially a high-end gadget like the iPad — used to be hit or miss, but it’s a lot easier now that major retailers have legitimized the process.

For instance, an iPad purchased from Amazon’s Warehouse section would have undergone a thorough inspection to determine its exact condition. It’d ship quickly (especially for Prime members), and come with the same return policy as a “new” item sold directly from Amazon.

The discount you’ll receive by buying an iPad refurbished will be based on its condition, but consider this: you can get a refurbished or “renewed” iPad on Amazon right now starting at just $144.
