'It is appalling': Footage of Trump mocking Ford sparks thousands of comments
President Trump added fuel to the fire in the controversy surrounding his Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh when he openly mocked accuser Christine Blasey Ford at a rally this week. Footage and coverage of the incident has sparked thousands of comments on Yahoo, with the majority condemning the president. Yahoo commenters often support the president, but that was not the case in the first few hours after this top-viewed Yahoo News post was published.
Questioning Ford’s credibility in front of a crowd of supporters in Mississippi, the president mocked her testimony from last week’s hearing: “How did you get there? I don’t remember. Where is the place? I don’t remember. How many years ago was it? I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. What neighborhood was it in? I don’t know. Where’s the house? I don’t know. Upstairs, downstairs, where was it? I don’t know. But I had one beer, that’s the only thing I remember.”
Yahoo users overwhelmingly found the display by the president inappropriate. One top commenter said, “Another testament to his impetuous leadership. This dude literally just said the other day that she “looked like a very fine woman and is a very credible witness.”

One comment receiving thousands of up-votes came from user Steve: “Remember when U.S. Presidents had class and dignity, and treated everyone with respect?”
Another lamented, “No morals, no ethics, no integrity, no honesty, no respect, no decency.”
Support for Ford is also prevalent: “It is appalling that our President mocked a trauma survivor who had the courage to come forward, out of civic duty, to protect the integrity of our highest court. Our President has crossed the line repeatedly. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, you are a hero to many women who are survivors of sexual assault. I am so very sorry for what happened to you in 1982, and for the treatment you are receiving now. The arc of history leans toward justice, albeit very slowly,” wrote user Linda.
.@PressSec just claimed that Trump didn’t mock Dr. Ford, only stated facts.
This, of course, is not the case. True to form, Trump lashed out & insulted someone he knows little about.@realdonaldtrump, stop mocking and demeaning women. And take Dr. Ford’s allegations seriously.

In the top several pages of comments (displaying those receiving the most up-votes from fellow users), support for the president was virtually impossible to find.
But one persistent message appeared that perhaps both sides can equally support:
“VOTE IN NOVEMBER.”
