'The Walking Dead' star Lauren Cohan says 'we're all animals' in season 5

She was just a simple farm girl once upon a time. But then the zombie apocalypse happened and her entire family went either dead or missing. I guess that’s the bad news. The good news is that at least she has a swell boyfriend who is no longer acting like a tool because he could not forgive her for being sexually assaulted by the Governor. (Not Glenn’s finest hour.)

No doubt about it: Maggie Greene has been though a lot on The Walking Dead. And we have watched her evolve before our very eyes. But how does actress Lauren Cohan view Maggie now as opposed to the Maggie we all met at the start of season 2? We asked Cohan to talk about how Maggie has changed through the past few seasons as a result of the zombie plague. “I feel like in the beginning we always knew that Maggie was a physically strong person,” Cohan said while taking a break from her EW cover shoot. “She’s a farm girl. She would have been doing work on the farm. But where we’ve gotten to by season 5 now is that she is so dependent on that physical strength. Like that’s all she is, almost. They live a pretty barbaric life. She’s definitely still a sensitive vulnerable person, but I feel like we’re kind of all animals now.”

We’ve seen that animalistic behavior from both friends and foes before and it sounds like we can expect to see more of it coming up. Speaking of coming up, Cohan also talks about how the group of survivors are feeling while trapped in that train car heading into season 5.
