'Once Upon a Time' actor Raphael Sbarge on 'Star Wars' in Storybrooke and 'dramatic' events to come

EW readers might be hoping to see Yoda pop up on Once Upon a Time, but actor Raphael Sbarge, who plays Storybrooke’s resident psychologist Archie, has his own hopes.

“When Disney bought Star Wars, my first thought was, ‘When’s C-3PO coming on?!'” he tells EW.

But his own personal wish list aside, Sbarge says he’s on the fence about whether or not George Lucas’ iconic characters should ever cross paths with Storybrooke — but if they ever do, it would stay true to the Once universe.

“It’s above my pay grade, but I would imagine there’s a fine line for [the writers] to walk. Part of what makes this show work is even though they have broken the rules in one sense, they have a lot of structure to what it is they’ve laid out,” he says.

“If they do bring a Star Wars character, I’m not sure how they do it, but I imagine they’d do what they have done, which is figure out a way to make sense of it…while they can go anywhere, they’ve created a rulebook we all follow and that’s given [the show] its integrity.”

While the immediate future has no Star Wars characters involved, the Once gang still has plenty to deal with as the show cruises toward its last episode of 2012. With Emma and Snow still trapped in “post-apocalyptic fairytale land” and the town still reeling from the broken curse, Sbarge says there is a lot of action on the horizon. “There’s a very big event that occurs in Storybrooke with the characters we know, and it’s sort of a quite a dramatic event,” he says. “It affects [Archie] directly.”

Almost eight episodes into the new season, there’s no telling exactly where the larger arc will end up, Sbarge says. But says he has great faith in creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. “The sky is the limit. These gentlemen are formitable. I think that in lesser hands, this would have gone off the rails.”
