'Hamilton' will film the original cast before Lin-Manuel Miranda leaves

Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda will leave the Broadway blockbuster’s stage on July 9, but before that happens, Hamilton‘s original cast will film the production at least twice, Miranda confirmed on Twitter Thursday. (USA Today reports that two different performances will be filmed).

As of right now, there are no plans of what to do with the footage. Miranda joked that they’ll be “throwing it in a vault at Gringott’s for a bit prolly.” Miranda has repeatedly disavowed the notion that a Hamilton movie is coming anytime soon; after all, the film adaption of his first musical, In the Heights, is only just now starting to pick up steam.

Yet fans can rest assured knowing that the original production — which includes newly-minted Tony winners Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr., and Renee Elise Goldsberry — will be captured before the show splinters in different directions, as Miranda prepares for his role in Mary Poppins Returns and new productions start in cities like Chicago.
