'Black Mirror': Bryce Dallas Howard on season 3 and how it 'resonates now'
Black Mirror is officially back for it’s third season, and the Netflix series won’t be holding back any of its social commentary.
Bryce Dallas Howard tells EW in a video interview, above, that her episode (titled “Nosedive”) touches upon things people experience on a daily basis. “It’s a world in which we all rate each other, so like Uber or Postmates or AirBnB,” explains the Jurassic World actress, drawing real world parallels. “It creates this society where people are just trying to seek others’ approval. And obviously that resonates now.”
This season also contains a throwback to the ‘80s, says Mackenzie Davis, whose Halt and Catch Fire is of the same time period. According to the actress, the episode, titled “San Junipero,” is full of “’80s optimism instead of the dread and despair that comes with a lot of Black Mirror.” Though Davis adds, “There’s still a bit of that, but you’re left with more optimism than the rest of them.”
Her episode costar Gugu Mbatha-Raw adds, “There’s a twist of course, which of course is classic Black Mirror. I can tell you that I didn’t see it coming.”
