'American Idol': Jim Carrey's daughter auditions

'American Idol': Watch Jim Carrey's shockingly well-adjusted daughter's audition -- VIDEO

Somebody (don’t) stop her! As those of you still obsessed enough with American Idol to stay up until 11:30 p.m. to watch an audition episode (there has to be some help for us out there, doesn’t there?) saw last night, a celebrity’s daughter auditioned for a spot on the reality series. And though I swore at first she had to be a long-lost Cyrus sibling, turns out the contestant, Jane Carrey, is the 24-year-old daughter to comedy mega-star Jim Carrey. (Mom is Carrey’s ex-wife, Melissa Womer.)

Of course, since Jane is celebrity kin, we should be predisposed to disliking her in the American Idol universe: In our eyes, well-connected would-be contestants might take away a slot from someone more deserving with fewer options. But, when it comes to Jane, I can’t help it: I dig the girl. Not necessarily because she blew me away with her audition — her version of Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About” was hardly a show stopper. But it was just good enough to make me appreciate her talent, and her maturity: It’s not often that someone with a famous parent appears down-to-earth — Jane calls herself a “mom first” — and boasts a day job as unglamorous as “waitress.” (And former fly girl Jennifer Lopez’s memories of her In Living Color colleague’s 2-year-old daughter? Adorable.)

I’m not sure Jane is solid enough to make it past Hollywood, but something tells me the ratings-challenged American Idol might not be able to resist an episode or two with Jim Carrey in the audience. Watch her audition after the jump, and let us know in the comments if you think she has what it takes!
