'Agents of SHIELD': Where you've seen those new faces before

'Agents of SHIELD': Here's why you recognize those new SHIELD leaders

The real S.H.I.E.L.D. was unmasked during Tuesday’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.—and you may have recognized a few of their leaders. Yes, in aiming for transparency and accountability, there are four different leaders of the real S.H.I.E.L.D., one of which we’ve already met on the series.

Agent Anne Weaver (Christine Adams) first appeared in the early season 1 episode in which Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Fitz (Iain de Caestecker) returned to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Science and Technology Academy. Weaver, who headed up the academy, also warned Simmons and Triplett (B.J. Britt) of an impending Hydra attack during last year’s takeover episode, “Turn, Turn, Turn,” though it appeared she had perished in the ensuing chaos… or so everyone thought.

As for the other leaders—Agent Robert Gonzales (Edward James Olmos), Agent Tomas Calderon (Kirk Acevedo) and Agent Oliver (Mark Allan Stewart)—none of them are established Marvel characters from the comics, though you probably recognized the former two from other projects. Olmos hails from Battlestar Galactica, while Acevedo is known for his roles on Fringe and 12 Monkeys. Stewart, meanwhile, is a voice actor whose credits include The Legend of Korra and Disney’s Planes.

Now you know who they are so you can justifiably hate them while they try to take Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team down.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
