‘Anyone But You’ trailer: Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell get cheeky in full-bloodied rom-com [Watch]

Pour one out for the aggregators because next month’s “Anyone But You” is sure to keep their fingers furiously typing. The new romantic comedy stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, two exceedingly photogenic movie stars who generated tabloid headlines about their cozy friendship during the film’s production last year. (Powell recently said the rumors about their alleged personal connection were “disorienting and unfair.”)

The Sweeney and Powell dynamic is at least one part of the discourse for the Sony release, which arrives on December 22. Fortunately, at least based on the hilarious new trailer for the film, another aspect of “Anyone But You” that should drive the conversation is its potential success as a romantic comedy and its proof that both Sweeney and Powell are top-flight, charismatic movie stars.

Here’s the plot summary:

In the edgy comedy Anyone But You, Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold – until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.

This has all the hallmarks of a modern-day genre classic, including shenanigans and schemes and wild R-rated set pieces like the one that leaves Powell with his butt fully exposed. That both Powell and Sweeney will be able to promote the film now that the actors’ strike is over is yet another reason to consider this one a box-office sleeper. Fingers crossed, at least, that “Anyone But You” as a film is as successful as “Anyone But You” as a trailer.

“Anyone But You” is out December 22.
