Anya Taylor-Joy had a theme for her nuptials to husband Malcolm McRae — and it wasn't necessarily one that many brides pick.

"I had a vampire wedding," the actress, 28, joked while recounting her "I dos" during a Tuesday, May 21-appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark.

Taylor-Joy and McRae first eloped on April 1, 2022 in New Orleans. The pair then held a bigger ceremony with friends and family in Venice, Italy in September 2023.

"That’s what happened; I just went to all of these gothic cool places," Taylor-Joy said, while promoting her role in the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Live co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, who themselves eloped in Las Vegas back in 1996, praised Taylor-Joy on picking New Orleans. But it turns out, The Menu star wasn't familiar with the location before she went there for her "I dos."

"It was the best, I’d never been," she said while speaking about her intimate New Orleans ceremony, which was attended by the couple’s close friends Cara Delevingne and Sebastián Faena, "I don’t know why I was so drawn to the birth of American Gothic and it was a blast. I’m very, very lucky we did it that way."

After their elopement, Taylor-Joy and McRae kept their marriage under wraps for six months, only telling people close to them like their parents and their siblings.

“Sometimes it feels like something precious and you want to hold it really close to yourself,” she said on Live, noting that the April Fool's Day date helped. "The idea behind it was because we wanted to keep it a secret and we kind of knew that people pick up on things, because it was April 1 we could always say it was a prank. And it worked!"

For their second wedding in Venice, Italy, things were a little more public and a little more rowdy.

“What was actually so much fun is that he was from Alabama and I’m from Argentina, so we had the two souths like, meet together," Taylor-Joy said about the festivities, which was also attended by stars like Miles Teller, Nicolas Hout, and Evan Ross. "The party was wild!”

Taylor-Joy and McRae made their first public appearance in March 2022 at the CAA pre-Oscar party in West Hollywood, California and have been together ever since.

In April, Taylor-Joy shared an Instagram post, celebrating her two year anniversary with McRae, 30. “Two years ago, on April Fool's, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans,” Taylor-Joy said in her post. “The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever."
