Anya Taylor-Joy Kicked Off Cannes In a High Slit Dress and Absurdly Large Hat

Anya Taylor-Joy arrived in Nice, France on Monday for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and already, the actress is giving us lessons in summer style. She's there to promote her new film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a prequel to the 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road, and before the carpet even began, she was pulling out all the stops.

For her first look of the week-long event, the actress wore a mid-length strapless dress. The body-hugging orange look from ATLEIN's Spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection featured a hip-high slit. Of course, sunscreen is a must-wear summer accessory but why stop there? Taylor-Joy added a gigantic sun-blocking rafia hat by Jacquemus for extra protection. Not only is the look a genuinely great way to protect your skin from the sun, straw hats can be a way to add an element of beach-side glamour to your look (especially when it's ridiculously oversized).

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Anya Taylor-Joy opened up about the difficulties of playing young Furiosa. “I’ve never been more alone than making that movie," she said. "I don’t want to go too deep into it, but everything that I thought was going to be easy was hard." She also added, "Like I knew I was going to need the two years that it took for the movie to come out to deal with it.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to release in the United States on May 24. As Taylor-Joy continues to promote the movie, we'll surely get more details and see other looks from the actor. So far, this look, her daring Paco Rabanne chain dress, and her floral metal Balmain dress have proved that she's one to watch.
