Anthony Mackie to Star in Futuristic Action Thriller ‘Outside the Wire’ at Netflix

Anthony Mackie has landed another role post “Avengers: Endgame,” as the Falcon actor is set to star in the futuristic, action sci-fi “Outside the Wire” for Netflix, it was announced on Friday.
Mikael Håfström, who directed “Escape Plan” and “1408,” will direct the film that 42 and Automatik are producing. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones is producing for Automatik, while Ben Pugh and Erica Steinberg are producing for 42, Jason Spire is producing for Inspire Entertainment. Mackie will also serve as a producer.
“Outside the Wire” is set in the future and follows a drone pilot who is sent into a deadly militarized zone, where he finds himself working for an android officer tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do.
Rob Yescombe and Rowan Athale wrote the script, and principal photography is set to kick off later this summer.
Josh Horsfield and Fred Berger are executive producing “Outside the Wire” for Automatik, while Rory Aiken is the executive producer for 42.
Netflix has a multi-year, first-look deal for development, financing and production on feature films with 42, and previously partnered with both Automatik and 42 on “In the Shadow of the Moon,” starring Boyd Holbrook, Michael C. Hall, Cleopatra Coleman and Bokeem Woodbine, which will be released later this year.
Mackie has had a busy year beyond his “Avengers” duties. He was seen in a new episode of “Black Mirror” and in the series “Altered Carbon,” as well as the English-language remake of “Miss Bala.” He’ll later star in “Against All Enemies,” “The Woman in the Window” and “The Banker.” He’s alslo attached to star in the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series “Falcon & Winter Soldier,” which takes place following the events of “Endgame.”
