Anthony Mackie Calls ‘Civil War’ ‘Marvel’s Best Movie,’ Predicts Best Picture Nomination

In an interview with BBC Radio, Anthony Mackie referred to “Captain America: Civil War” as Marvel’s best movie.

“‘Winter Solider’ and ‘Iron Man’ 1 are probably Marvel’s two best movies. I feel like this one beats both of those movies,” said Mackie, who stars as Falcon in the upcoming superhero film. “I think it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for best picture,” he added.

As he went on to describe his admiration for the action pic’s performances, he began name-dropping the actors whose work he got to witness during production of the film. After listing Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, he mentioned Mark Ruffalo, seemingly insinuating that the actor will revive his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in Marvel’s upcoming installment.

During a later appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on Monday night, Mackie clarified that his mention of Ruffalo in the radio interview was an act of paying respect to fellow Marvel universe actors.

“I was giving respect to my fellow actors,” he told Meyers. “I said Marvel movies are so great because they have great actors. The likes of Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., love that guy. People take that to mean that I’m saying this is what the movie is about, and this is in the movie.”

“Captain America: Civil War,” which also stars Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Rudd, hits theaters May 6.
