Anthony Edwards doesn’t think Michael Jordan can guard him.

The Minnesota Timberwolves athlete told 360 with Speedy that MJ’s defensive prowess wouldn’t stop him. While the ascending star did admit he wouldn’t drop 40 on the GOAT, he asserted he would hold his own. He also added that people are going to disagree with him. However, Edwards still believes in himself against the nine-time All-Defensive First Team NBA player.

“Hell nah! No,” he said. “I ain’t gonna say [I’m a drop 40], but I’m a do my thing—He gonna know who I am when the game over with.”

“In my opinion, I mean, a lot of people gonna say differently. They gonna say I’m talking crazy, but this is just my confidence,” he added. “I don’t think it’s gonna be easy and I think I’m gonna do my thing versus him, for sure…He’s the greatest, don’t get me wrong. But my confidence is still at an all-time high.”

While Anthony ponders a potential showdown between him and Jordan, some people believe he’s the next MJ. Talking head and current NBA player Pat Beverley discussed Edwards’ resemblance to the Chicago Bulls icon.

“Michael Jordan was the whole thing, not just only skill. Michael’s [ability] to cultivate a younger generation with his smile, you never see Mike frown or tell a kid no, you see him in media; he was always fun, and he was just a likable person,” he detailed on an episode of Gil’s Arena.

“You see Anthony Edwards, man, you see this man in an interview? You just can’t help but to like the kid. He has the smile, he has the baby face. But when you give him a two between his eyes, he’s a monster. I think his numbers in the playoffs, compared to Mike’s and a lot of the top greats, that’s in the playoffs at 21, 22 years old, he’s up there with the best of them.”

Ant-Man isn’t going for the comparisons though. When asked about the similarities to Jordan, Edwards insisted he wants to be himself. The Georgia athlete also admitted that he’s “not even close” to MJ.

“I just want them to stop,” he said. “Because he’s the greatest to ever play basketball and I’m so far from it. Like, not even close. I just wish it stopped. Stop comparing me to Michael Jordan. He’s Michael Jordan, I’m my own basketball player. Whatever I do, I do, but yeah, I’m nowhere near Michael Jordan.”
