Ant-Man: Could Evangeline Lilly get her own spin-off?

Could Evangeline Lilly get her own 'Ant-Man' spin-off?

[Warning: Ant-Man spoilers lie ahead!]

In the months leading up to Ant-Man’s release (it hit theaters on Friday), it was rumored that Evangeline Lilly’s character, Hope van Dyne, could become some iteration of the Wasp.

In the comics, Hope was introduced as the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, who are, respectively, the original Ant-Man and the Wasp (both are also founding members of the Avengers). In director Peyton Reed’s big screen adaptation, meanwhile, Hank is at the center of the story, but Janet is noticeably missing — fueling the rumors that Hope would follow in her mother’s footsteps.

Without giving too much away, Ant-Man wraps with Hope preparing to suit up, superheroine style. At the film’s Hollywood premiere earlier this month, Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) and Lilly (Lost, The Hobbit series) addressed Hope’s new undertaking.

“Evangeline is unbelievable in the movie, and a large part of [it] really is her journey as a character,” Reed says. “One of the fun things when you see the movie is, there’s an issue at hand. Hank has a big problem and he recruits Scott Lang [a.k.a. the new Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd] to take care of it. But the solution has been there under his nose the entire time, and it’s his daughter. He can’t really see it. But it’s really sort of crucial to the DNA of the story — it’s Hope’s story as well.”

Reed believes Hope’s story is ripe with spin-off potential, and would love to be a part of it if it happens. Lilly, for her part, is also game. “Anything Marvel wants me to do, I’ll do,” she says. “They’re so fantastic to work for and they’re such incredibly smart filmmakers. I would love to be a part of any sequel, or anything. I’m there.”

But what would it take to get to a spin-off? Reed quips, “You have to ask Kevin Feige that question.”
