Ant-Man 3 director Peyton Reed has revealed that Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly's characters will be regarded as equals in the movie.

Ant-Man and the Wasp was the first ever Marvel Cinematic Universe project to feature a female superhero in its title, and Reed now looks to build on that for the next instalment.

Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment about the Wasp, aka Hope van Dyne (Lilly), he said: "They’re a partnership, and she’s a very, very important part of that."

"And that was a very gratifying thing, I guess technically we were the first Marvel movie with a female hero in the title of the movie."

On how he's planning to keep the Wasp at the forefront alongside Rudd's Scott Lang for Ant-Man 3, he added: "Finding that balance in that movie, that’s very important to me because that’s very much a men’s playing field, historically. But that’s really, really changing now in a great way."
