Another Broken Egg Cafe brings new brunch experience to El Paso

Many El Pasoans are flocking to Another Broken Egg Cafe since the first upscale brunch franchise opened Nov. 6 on El Paso's West Side.

The restaurant is owned by El Paso businessman Luis Romero and is an updated and former Village Inn restaurant at 5863 N. Mesa St. This is the brand's 93rd location nationwide, and 11th in Texas.

The franchise focuses on a breakfast, brunch and lunch menu specializing in Southern-inspired cuisine and signature cocktails.

"I am absolutely delighted to introduce Another Broken Egg Cafe's innovative interpretation of Southern-inspired cuisine to the community. I previously lived in El Paso for a period of eight years, so it's been great to know that this opportunity will allow me to reconnect with the larger community," said Romero in an emailed release.

Romero's operations experience spans more than a decade across multiple restaurant brands. He has managed multiple prominent brands in Mexico for the past eight years. He has overseen operations of franchises such as IHOP and Boston's Pizza across several northern Mexico states.

Another Broken Egg Cafe's menu is impressive and appealing to foodies with its scrumptious descriptions and plating.  The diverse menu includes gluten-friendly and vegetarian options.

The Lobster Eggs Benedict, which is on a limited basis currently, and the Hash Brown Benedict were just two of the tempting dishes we decided to order.

Understandably, with the buzz, the restaurant was rather busy, and we had to wait a bit for our dishes to arrive. But the wait staff is attentive with drinks and checking on tables.

However, the wait was worth it as our dishes seemed worthy of a cooking show competition.

My friend and I couldn't resist sharing the two dishes, which are served in two portions, so it was easy to scoot the poached egg concoctions onto each other's plates.

Our favorite was the Lobster Eggs Benedict ($15.99), which are cheddar and ham-filled potato hash mounds with pieces of sauteed lobster, truffle seasoned mushrooms, red pepper hollandaise and finally, the eggs topped with fried onions. The two hash mounds came with a bowl of crispy, country potatoes.

The Hash Brown Benedict also was delicious: two ham and cheese stuffed crispy hash croquettes topped with perfectly made poached eggs, a nice serving (not overwhelming) of Hollandaise sauce, chopped bacon and green onion. Breaking the poached egg into the other delicious components made for an unforgettable first mouthful.

The restaurant has the Lobster Eggs Benedict, chilaquiles and Tiramisu French Toast as seasonal items, so be sure to get them while they are on the menu.

In general, the prices for the dishes seem reasonable, considering brunch specialties have ingredients like lobster, Louisiana crawfish and andouille for a Mardi Gras omelet and smoked salmon or champagne butter.

Diners will want to return to try other dishes. We made room for a half-order of beignets, which also were delightful little pastries with powdered sugar. The honey marmalade is a great addition.

Have a little room for something sweet? Try the light beignets in half order (four) or full order and a honey marmalade.
