Annual Concert for Tommy set for July 29

Jul. 18—THOMASVILLE- On July 29, the 3rd Annual Concert for Tommy will be held at the Thomasville Exchange Club Fairgrounds at 7 p.m., raising money for scholarships and supporting the local Families for a CURE, which spreads awareness for childhood cancer.

Event organizer Randy Young said that they have raised money for local scholarships for students pursuing music or audio/video production in college in the past, but this year they are adding another way to give back.

"The last few years have been very successful, so we wanted to share that success with local groups that we felt like deserved it, so we partnered with a local organization here called Families for a CURE," Young said. "They work on behalf of childhood cancer patients."

Young said that after they re-fuel the scholarship funds with the proceeds of the concert, all further proceeds will be going to Families for a CURE.

In addition, Young said that Families for a CURE would begin selling BBQ plates for $12 at the fairgrounds at 1 p.m., which

attendees could purchase before the concert began at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the concert will cost $20 with an additional $10 cooler charge for attendees wanting to bring their own drink cooler.

Young said that concert would be composed of local musicians, including Nashville recording artist and Thomasville native Hannah Wright and her band, Midnight Revelry, the 80's tribute band The Rock Mob, and Young's own band, The Skinks. He said that this concert was held in honor of Tommy Griffin, a local musician and music producer that passed away years ago.

"All of this was created in his honor, the concert and the scholarship for students going to college in audio or video production, and it's been very successful," Young said.

Young said that this event couldn't have been successful without the support from the local musicians, the community and others who have worked hard to honor Tommy Griffin and, now, support the fight against childhood cancer alongside Families for a CURE.
