The late actress’ oldest son, Homer Laffoon, from her marriage to Coley Laffoon, is struggling as the estate’s administrator with the pending debts that lay ahead, according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight. Heche’s estate currently “consists of (i) a modest bank account; (ii) royalty payments and other residual income from pre-death projects; (iii) a corporation in which the Decedent was the sole shareholder (used for projects in development and business functions related to Decedent’s career in the entertainment industry); (iv) an LLC membership interest related to a podcast Decedent helped create; and (v) tangible personal property items.”

While that may sound like a simple estate to close, Heche’s estate is facing three $2 million claims from the crash. The owners of the home she crashed into was rented out by a woman, who also lost all of her belongings that day. The Six Days, Seven Nights star’s assets currently total $110,000 making the estate “insolvent” with the pending debts. Laffoon noted that his late mother’s memoir, Call Me Anne, released after her death in January 2023, had weak sales. He is anticipating less than $25,000 to come in from the publication and they will be conducting an estate sale from her personal belongings to generate funds.

Laffoon is also “actively engaged” in trying to “negotiate appropriate settlements of the claims” in hopes of resolving the cases “fairly and without litigation.” With all of these items pending, Heche’s estate will likely remain open until July 2025. It’s a hefty task to ask of a young man who tragically, and unexpectedly, lost his mother, but it looks like he’s doing his best to tie up loose ends with her estate.

This isn’t the first battle over Heche’s estate, though. Her ex-boyfriend and father of her youngest son Atlas, 15, tried to contest her estate because she died without a will. He shared a 2011 email from Heche with the courts that stated, “FYI in case I die tomorrow, and anyone asks. My wishes are that all of my assets go to the control of Mr. James Tupper to be used to raise my children and then given to the children.” In the end, Laffoon prevailed, and now, he’s handling his mother’s legacy with the final grace and care she deserved.
