Following the release of the trailer for The Idea of You two weeks ago, fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting to watch the upcoming rom-com starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine. After all, the movie, which follows a Harry Styles–esque boy-band member falling for a 40-something gallerist, will see Hathaway in a whole new light

Looking at her impressive resume, for instance, Hathaway’s romance movies, in between heartbreaking dramas like Les Misérables and Rachel Getting Married, are quite few and far between. With the new movie, however, Hathaway aims to redefine herself.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair as their new cover star, the actress talked about how the movie follows a character she felt compelled to portray: a 40-something woman who’s still in her “sexual bloom.” “I feel ready to be a sexual creature out loud,” Hathaway told the outlet, adding that women her age are often told they’ll become invisible.

“It’s not like one healthy, consensual female orgasm (okay, multiple) is going to change the world,” she continued. “But I’m really happy to be part of a story that takes pleasure in female pleasure.”

Luckily for Hathaway, it’s not just her character Solène who’s in an exciting phase of her life. “This is the first time I’ve known myself this well,” she told the outlet. “I don’t live in what others think of me. I know my own mind and I am connected to my own feelings.”

Among the deciding factors for this new era were becoming a mom, turning 40, giving herself more grace and giving up alcohol.

“I knew deep down it wasn’t for me,” she said about going sober. “And it just felt so extreme to have to say, ‘But none?’ But none. If you’re allergic to something or have an anaphylactic reaction to something, you don’t argue with it. So I stopped arguing with it.”

“It’s a path everybody has to walk for themselves,” she continued. “My personal experience with it is that everything is better. For me, it was wallowing fuel. And I don’t like to wallow. The thing that I have faith in is that everybody else is going to have one or two drinks, and by the time everybody gets to two drinks, you’ll feel like you’ve had two drinks—but without the hangover.”

Looks like both Hathaway and her character are making ways to become their true selves!
