The actress has been dealing with undisclosed health issues that have negatively impacted her mobility.

Anna Paquin walked the red carpet of her latest film, A Bit of Light, directed by her husband and True Blood costar Stephen Moyer, with the assistance of a cane. The Oscar-winner has been experiencing undisclosed health issues for the past two years that affect her mobility and speech.

"It hasn't been easy," Paquin told PEOPLE, referring to needing a cane to walk as well as difficulty speaking. A source told the outlet, however, that the actress will hopefully make a full recovery.

Despite her health concerns, Paquin says she's been very lucky to get to do what she loves.

"My first love was independent filmmaking," she elaborated"That's how I entered the film industry. I was working with people who were all about telling stories and telling them with integrity and truth."

Paquin won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Jane Campion's The Piano at age 11.

The X-Men star is also grateful to be able to work with Moyer, remarking that he's her "favorite person to play with." Moyer had previously directed Paquin in a few episodes of True Blood and later in two episodes of her Prime Video series Flack.

A Bit of Light is their second film together, with Moyer first directing 2018's The Parting Glass, starring Paquin, fellow True Blood alum Denis O'Hare (who also wrote the script), Cynthia Nixon, and Ed Asner.

Hitting theaters April 5, A Bit of Light stars Paquin as an alcoholic mother who loses custody of her kids and is forced to rebuild her life while reconciling with the past. Of her frequent collaborations with Moyer, Paquin noted she wouldn't work with him if he didn't have the chops.

"I'm not sentimental when it comes to work," she added, laughing.
