Anna Paquin has never seen X-Men: Days of Future Past – The Rogue Cut

Anna Paquin is truly “appreciative” of the X-Men fans who fought to get Fox to release the Rogue Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past, even if she still hasn’t seen it.

In Days of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class, Paquin was meant to reprise her role of Rogue alongside Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Ellen Page.

“Those films have really really interesting, let’s call it, processes as far as how the scripts come about and they change so many times over the course of shooting,” Paquin explains. “And having done a bunch of ‘em already, I wasn’t massively surprised that the stuff shot first week of photography didn’t really fit by the end, six months later.”

The film, released in 2014, saw the X-Men of the future fighting for survival against giant Sentinel robots that helped enslave mutants in concentration camps. Kitty Pryde sends Wolverine back in time to prevent this reality from happening. Initially, there was going to be a moment when Kitty is injured and the mutants have to find Rogue in order to transfer Kitty’s powers over before she bleeds out and breaks the time connection.

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” director Bryan Singer explained previously. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in.”

“It wasn’t really a big deal for me, I was fine,” Paquin says of being cut out of the theatrical release. “It happens. Also, I was a new mom and already had a full-time job so I was like, ‘Okay, so I’m not in the movie. That’s fine.’ Then the movie comes out and a lot of people got very defensive on my behalf… and then the Rogue Cut appeared.”

X-Men: Days of Future Past – The Rogue Cut was released on Blu-ray in 2015 with Paquin’s scenes as Rogue back in the cut.

“It’s incredibly flattering… I appreciate all the people who were very vocal, who fought for Rogue,” the actress adds.
