Anna Paquin was so offended by a comment on one of her social media posts that she had to say something about it. The commenter said that the True Blood actress has “functional anorexia.”

In her response, Paquin noted that, in fact, she’s “gratefully and actively recovering from #anorexia.” She found the person’s message to be “cruel and ignorant.”

Paquin’s fans backed her up, and they applauded her for being so open about her experience.

“Nothing brings out the creepers quite like the holidays….”

“People can be so callous. You’re beautiful inside and out. People should never make assumptions or judgments. Rock on with your beautiful self girl.”

“Thanks for being vocal about this. People do not realize that a comment like this can actually be a trigger.”

“You’re an inspiration to me and you’re such a bad ass!!! Love you! Don’t let the a**holes steal your light!! Much love.”

Paquin has fended off body shamers before, including once in November 2015, when she told critics of her dress at a movie premiere that she was neither pregnant nor fat.

She addressed the pressure to conform to Hollywood’s body standards in a June 2010 interview. “I’m really careful about what I eat, and I work out a lot,” she told Self. “It’s not like this is an accident. I’m sure, no matter what your genetics, everyone can be out of shape. And I don’t want to be one of those actresses who says, ‘Yeah, I eat cheeseburgers all the time.’ Because I don’t. I live my life, but I’m really careful about taking care of myself. If I don’t take care of myself, in the sense of not also nourishing myself, I don’t do the kind of work that I’m proud of.”

Next year, Paquin’s work will include a role on the final season of critically acclaimed Showtime series The Affair.
