Anna Meredith Announces New Record Anno , Shares New Song: Listen

Combining original compositions with Vivaldi’s classic The Four Seasons

British composer and electronic musician Anna Meredith has announced a new record called Anno. Out August 17 via Moshi Moshi, the LP features original compositions by Meredith, combined with pieces from Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Meredith recorded Anno with the Scottish Ensemble violin orchestra. Meredith has also shared the first piece, which begins as her original song “Low Light” and becomes “Ice” (the first movement of Vivaldi’s “Winter”). Listen below.

Anno began as an immersive 360 degree live experience at Spitalfields Music Summer Festival 2016. Scottish Ensemble’s artistic director Jonathan Morton noted the similarities between Meredith’s writing and Vivaldi’s—he proposed they marry the classical with her electronic work.

Along with digital and double vinyl copies, the record will also be available in an exclusive binaural recording that allows the listener to experience the album in a special spatial capacity. This August, Meredith and the Scottish Ensemble are slated to perform Anno in full for the Made in Scotland Showcase at Edinburgh Fringe 2018. See more information, purchase tickets, and learn about her other performances on her website. Meredith’s last album was Varmints.
