Nearly two years after we first got word that Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick had filmed a secret project with Brass Eye and Four Lions creator Chris Morris, the first trailer for the film has finally dropped.

The Day Shall Come is described as "an emotionally gripping, laugh-out-loud thriller" that is based on 100 true stories, and follows impoverished preacher Moses (Marchant Davis) as he's offered cash to save his family from eviction.

What Moses doesn't know is that his sponsor works for FBI agent Kendra Glack (Kendrick), who plans to turn Moses into a criminal to look good in front of her boss.

As the synopsis teases, the film "exposes the dark farce at the heart of the homeland security project: It is harder to catch a real terrorist than it is to manufacture your own."

"The Day Shall Come reflects how institutionalised paranoia corrupts our thinking," Morris said in a statement about the film.

"Throughout the West, the Global War on Terror, now so baked in it no longer requires a name, has eroded freedoms it was declared to protect.

"The film tells the story of a person walking blind into a false reality programmed to blow up in his face. That person is a fringe preacher called Moses. The false reality is created by the FBI and written like a script. Moses has no idea this is happening or that their plotline ends with him in jail."

Alongside Kendrick and Davis, the film also features Orange Is the New Black star Danielle Brooks, as well as American Horror Story actor Denis O'Hare.

Morris's second feature film comes nearly a decade after his first hit Four Lions, which starred Kayvan Novak alongside Riz Ahmed and Arsher Ali, and was released back in 2010 to critical acclaim.

The Day Shall Come is scheduled to be released in the US on September 27, with a UK release date following on October 11.
