Anna Chlumsky, Julia Garner to Star in Shonda Rhimes’ Anna Delvey Series at Netflix

Netflix announced the cast of Shonda Rhimes’ limited series about millennial scammer Anna Delvey on Thursday, with “Ozark” star Julia Garner set to play the fake heiress.

She’ll be joined in the series by “Veep” alum Anna Chlumsky, “Orange Is the New Black” star Laverne Cox, “Scandal’s” Katie Lowes and “The Bold Type” actress Alexis Floyd. “The Devil Wears Prada’s” David Frankel has been tapped to direct the series, which is created and executive produced by Rhimes.

Titled “Inventing Anna,” the 10-episode limited series is inspired by the New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler about Anna Sorokin, a.k.a. Anna Delvey, the 28-year-old who faked being a German heiress to swindle New York elite out of more than $200,000.

The series centers on a journalist with a lot to prove (Chlumsky) who investigates the case of Anna Delvey (Garner), the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene – and stole their money as well.

Lowes, who reunites with “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes for the project, will play Rachel, a natural-born follower whose blind worship of Anna almost destroys her job, her credit and her life. Cox will play Kacy Duke, a celebrity trainer and life coach who gets sucked into the Anna whirlwind but is mature and centered enough to stay out of any real trouble. Floyd will play Neff, an aspiring filmmaker who encounters Anna while working as a hotel concierge.

Frankel will direct multiple episodes of the series, including the first two. Rhimes is creator and executive produces alongside Shondaland’s Betsy Beers.
