Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, the oldest daughter of reality TV star Mama June Shannon, has died. She was 29.

Shannon, 44, announced the news of Cardwell's death through a post shared on Instagram Sunday.

"With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us," she began the caption of her post alongside a family photograph. "She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM."

"She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today," Shannon continued.

"We love y’all and continued prayers and thoughts for our family doing this difficult time," she concluded.

Cardwell's death comes after Shannon shared a plea on Instagram on Friday, asking followers to keep her family in their thoughts.

Cardwell — who appeared alongside her mom and sister Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson in TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras and later, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo — was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in January and had been undergoing treatment at the time.

"Y’all we r asking for prayers for our family as we are going through this process we really appreciate y’all for all the thoughts and prayers and we will update y’all whenever we can just know that all of your thoughts and your prayers are very much appreciated during this time," Shannon wrote in her post, adding the hashtag "#CancerSucks."

Shannon's 23-year-old daughter, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, reposted her mother's request on her Instagram Story the same day, adding her own message: "Say a prayer for our family.”

Cardwell's doctors discovered cancer in her lung, liver and kidney following a series of tests after she complained about experiencing abdominal pain. She underwent her first round of chemotherapy in March.

Cardwell gave an update on her treatment on May 10 in an Instagram post, sharing that she was in the middle of her third round of chemo.

“This [was] yesterday," she wrote alongside a photo of herself and her boyfriend Eldridge Toney. "It was pretty good day but did get a little and Cracker Barrel was good going down but not up 😂 but over all it’s going good and chemo is working we come to find so things are looking good."

Earlier the same month, Shannon opened up to PEOPLE about how she was feeling "emotionally drained" amid her daughter's illness.

"I don't go live [on TikTok] a lot because of Anna. I'm already emotionally drained because of that," she explained at the time. "I'm not being mean with the emotion... I'm not mentally [or] emotionally prepared to deal with 5,000 people asking me about Anna that day."

She added of Cardwell's cancer diagnosis: "You don't know whether to scream. You don't know whether to laugh. You don't know whether to holler. You don't know who to blame."

Shannon also revealed to PEOPLE that she and her husband, Justin Stroud, were in the process of leaving Alabama to move to her native Georgia, allowing her to be by Cardwell's side to help her through her treatment.

In late May, Cardwell — who was a mom to two daughters, Kaitlyn Elizabeth, born in 2012, and Kylee Madison, born in 2015 — enjoyed a special family moment when Kaitlyn celebrated her elementary school graduation.

“I am one proud mama right now," she wrote in a Facebook post at the time, sharing photos and a video clip from the big day.

"I also can’t believe I am going to have a middle schooler and a second grader," she continued. "Give me a minute while I go cry my eyes out. I am so proud of my girls and everything they have accomplished."

Cardwell and her own mother faced some ups and downs in their relationship over the years.

In 2003, Cardwell moved out of Shannon's house and in with her grandmother. She returned home in 2012 ahead of the premiere of the family's spinoff Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which was cancelled by TLC in 2014 amid reports that Shannon was romantically involved with former boyfriend and convicted sex offender Mark McDaniel.

Shortly afterward, Cardwell came forward to say that McDaniel had sexually assaulted her when she was 8 years old. McDaniel had been dating her mother at the time. A source told PEOPLE in 2014 that Cardwell had moved out of Shannon's home after she was molested.

In an interview with PEOPLE at the time, Cardwell spoke about the abuse she said she had experienced as a child, at the hands of McDaniel, and how she and her mom had worked on repairing their relationship in the years since.

"Me and Mama realized we needed to put this behind us and get our relationship back on track and that's what we did and that's what we have been doing," she explained.

However, she added that she would be "hurt" if her mom was indeed dating McDaniel again.

“I would feel hurt. I would not feel betrayed, but I would feel hurt. You know the past should be in the past and it should stay in the past and not come back out," she said.

Although the pair remained largely estranged in the years since — with Cardwell suing her mom in 2015 for allegedly unpaid appearances on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo — they reunited earlier this year when Shannon married Stroud in February 2023.

The occasion was celebrated with all four of her daughters — Cardwell, Efird, Alana and Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon — by her side.

"This was the first time the family had all been together since 2014," Shannon told PEOPLE. "So it was really special to get married in a place where my family and I have had so many memories!"

Cardwell is survived by her daughters Kaitlyn Elizabeth and Kylee Madison.
