Angus Scrimm, Terrifying Tall Man Of ‘Phantasm,’ Dies At 89
Angus Scrimm, horror’s indelible Tall Man of the Phantasm franchise, died Saturday at 89. Phantasm director Don Coscarelli confirmed the news on his Twitter account, calling Scrimm “the last in a long line of classic horror movie stars” and “a terrific actor and even better friend.”
In all, Scrimm appeared in four Phantasm movies (with a fifth installment as yet unreleased). He also had roles in Alias, I Sell the Dead and other horror pics. A restoration of the first film, captained by JJ Abrams, is in the works.

Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell tweeted, “Angus Scrimm. Class act. Soft spoken. Honored to work with him. Credit to his craft. Safe passage.” FX legend Tom Savini called Scrimm “the truest gentleman horror icon.”
