The cast of Euphoria is in mourning after the shocking death of Angus Cloud, one of the HBO show's most beloved young stars.

Cloud, who portrayed Fezco (a.k.a. "Fez") on the drama series, died on Monday, his family confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE.

"Angus was special to all of us in so many ways," Cloud's family said, in part. "Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence."

On Wednesday, Maude Apatow, who plays Lexi on the series, honored her on-screen love interest and real-life pal.

"Angus was the funniest person ever," she wrote on Instagram. "I would get so excited to see on the schedule that we would be working together because I knew we’d have the best day, laughing so hard. He was the sweetest and made everyone around him so happy. He was just the best. Words can’t really capture how magical of a person he was. My heart is broken."

She concluded, "Angus, getting to know and work with you was one of the greatest joys and blessings of my life. I will love you forever. ❤️"

On Tuesday, Zendaya shared an emotional Instagram tribute.

"Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor)," the actress, 26, captioned a black-and-white photo of Cloud. "I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it)."

She continued, "I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love…'they could light up any room they entered' but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it. I’d like to remember him that way. For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment."

She ended the post with a note of respect for Cloud's family: "My heart is with his mother and family at this time and please be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone."

Zendaya's fellow Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney — who plays Cassie Howard on the series — also shared a tribute to Cloud on Tuesday, reflecting on Instagram about the sense of humor that his friends and castmates often mentioned.

"Angus you were an open soul, with the kindest heart, and you filled every room with laughter," she wrote. "This is the hardest thing ive ever had to post, and im struggling to find all the words. You will be missed more than you know, but I'm so blessed to have known you in this lifetime, and I'm sure everyone who has ever met you feels the same. This heartache is real and I wish we could've had one more hug and 711 run. All my love is with you. 🖤"

Barbie Ferreira, who announced her exit from Euphoria in August 2022, also paid tribute to the late star on Instagram with a picture of Cloud smiling.

"I love you so much. you will be missed tremendously," she captioned the snapshot.

Dominic Fike paid tribute to his costar and friend on Tuesday night during a concert in Houston, per TMZ.

"This was the first time I feel like I knew the person well enough to cry over and like, feel something, and it was weird," Fike, 27, said in a video recorded by an audience member. "And I had to like, I was on my way to get a massage, which sounds so f---ing stupid at the time, and I got this call and it f---ed me up. Obviously, I didn’t get the massage."

Fike said he thinks Cloud would've wanted him to get the massage and would've supported him moving forward with the concert.

"I think people have like, wavelengths, and if you zoom out far enough, maybe some people you’d see — probably not a lot of us at all — but I think if you zoomed out millions of miles, you would see this kid’s spark," Fike said of Cloud. "You know, you could see it from so far away, even if it was a short flash. He would light up a room, any room he walked in. He’s a f---ing good dude."

Finally, he shared a quote by James Baldwin: "I know we often lose, and that the death or destruction of another is infinitely more real and unbearable than one's own. I think I know how many times one has to start again, and how often one feels that one cannotstart again. And yet, on pain of death, one can never remain where one is. The light. The light. One will perish without the light."

Nika King, who plays Rue's mother on the series, looked back on a cherished memory with the young actor.

"We did our season 1 promo together and got a chance to really chop it up," she wrote on Instagram. "One of the most genuine, laid back, beautiful spirit in this crazy industry…and that magnetic smile. I’m so thankful to have met you and hear your wild stories about Oakland. You are loved and missed my friend @anguscloud 🕊️ 🕊️"

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson said in a statement to Deadline: "There was no one quite like Angus. He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon. He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched. I loved him. I always will. Rest in peace and God Bless his family."

Euphoria debuted in 2019, and quickly made waves. Cloud's Fez was a drug dealer with a soft spot for Rue and her friends — namely Lexi, with whom the character had a budding romantic storyline in the series's second season.

At the end of season 2, Fez's future was unclear following the death of Ashtray and his own arrest. The series was renewed for another season in early 2022, but filming constraints pre-writers' and actors' strikes meant viewers wouldn't see new episodes until 2025.

In March, Cloud recalled being discovered on the street in Brooklyn for the role of Fez, sharing, "I definitely thought it could be some kind of scam."

“Then they brought me back in and they showed me the role, and it made more sense," he told i-D. "Because in my mind I was like, they stopped me because I look like I could be a star? Then I’m like, no, it’s because I look like I could be a drug dealer."

The success of Euphoria also came as surprise to the actor, as he explained, "The difference between me and everyone else who’s famous it’s that they were trying to go get famous, for the most part."

He continued, “They were working hard, and they were like, ‘I’m going to make it to the top’. For me, it was just like too good of an opportunity to say no to. I had no idea it would go this far."
