Universal’s upcoming monster thriller, directed by Scream” and “Scream VI” filmmakers Radio Silence, has added to its buzzy cast, with Kathryn Newton, Angus Cloud and Will Catlett signing on for the film.

The trio join “Scream VI” star Melissa Barrera, Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens and Kevin Durand in the yet-to-be-titled movie, which is set for release on April 19, 2024.

Hot off the success of their “Scream” films, which reinvigorated the franchise and set box office records, Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the project from a script by Stephen Sheilds, with revisions by Guy Busick. Radio Silence’s Chad Villella serves as producer alongside William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and James Vanderbilt at Project X Entertainment. Tripp Vinson will also produce.

Details of the plot are being kept under wraps but the movie is described as in the vein of Universal’s most recent monster movies, “Renfield” and “The Invisible Man,” which “provide a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters,” according to the studio. It’s notable, too, that these films are not part of a shared, interconnected universe.

Jay Polidoro, Holly Goline, Kelly Cannon and Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.

Cloud is best known as fan-favorite character Fezco on HBO’s hit series “Euphoria,” which is set to return for a third season in 2024. The actor recently wrapped filming Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s “Freaky Tales,” taking on a supporting role in the eOne and Macro film, starring Ben Mendelsohn, Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis and Jack Champion. Also upcoming, Cloud has shot lead roles in the independent horror thriller “Your Lucky Day,” from writer-director Dan Brown, and Ethan Berger’s “The Line,” opposite Alex Wolff, Halle Bailey and John Malkovich.

Newton joins the thriller’s cast after racking up a successful track record at Universal — starring opposite Vince Vaughn in the body-swap comedy “Freaky,” and in “Blockers,” the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of 2018. More recently, Newton made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Cassie Lang in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” and wrapped production on the Focus Features movie “Lisa Frankenstein” with Cole Sprouse. Her credits also include “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things,” “Detective Pikachu,” “The Society,” “Big Little Lies,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri,” “Ben Is Back” and “Lady Bird.”

Catlett currently stars in Focus Features’ “A Thousand and One,” which won the grand jury prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and he’s a series regular in the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Constellation.” Last year, Catlett earned a NAACP Image award nomination for his performance in the Netflix limited series “True Story.” His recent credits also include the HBO Max feature “Charm City Kings” and HBO’s “Lovecraft Country.”

Cloud is repped by UTA, Sam Lutfi and Jamie Afifi at Afifi Law; Newton is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, Independent PR & Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox; and Catlett is repped by A3 Artists Agency and Sugar23.
