Juicy observations from the Golden Globes ... bathroom

As everyone knows, the bathroom is a magical place — that’s why women go together, after all. But the powder rooms at A-list events — whether it’s the Oscars or the Met Gala — are even more magical because they’re chock full of megastars trying to maintain their glam.

Last night, while keeping tabs on all the things viewers didn’t see in the Beverly Hilton Hotel ballroom during the Golden Globes — like Tom Hanks’s side gig as a cocktail waiter (true story) — we also kept an eye on the loo. From Angelina Jolie giving stink eye to line cutters to a star couple who did their bathroom run together, here’s what we saw.

Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon go together

While the ballroom that holds the Golden Globes can be crowded, it’s not so crowded that you’ll never be able to find your significant other ever again. However, the longtime couple, who will mark their 30th wedding anniversary this year, still went to the bathroom together. Maybe it’s because they’re just so in love that they can’t bear to be apart? We like to think so. Bacon, a nominee for I Love Dick, escorted the actress by the arm to the ladies’ room. As she disappeared inside, he called to her, “I’ll wait for you out here,” before disappearing into his own respective bathroom. (Clearly he knew that that her line would be longer.) A short while later, he came out and leaned against a nearby pillar and waited. And waited. And waited some more. He even managed to have two lengthy conversations with peers before Sedgwick came back out. “There you are!” he said. “I know, it took forever!” she replied, and the two walked back to their table, arms linked. Bathroom love is the best love.

Alison Brie doesn’t do lines

They say timing is everything, and nowhere is that truer than in the bathroom at the Globes. One minute the place will be empty, the next minute it can be packed to the rafters with women gracefully doing the “I gotta go” dance — in heels and skintight dresses, no less. Someone who has impeccable award show bathroom timing is the GLOW star, a nominee, who was shocked at the size of the line that snaked out the door and into the ballroom outside when she was on her way out the door. As the star, who had on pants under her dress, eyeballed it person by person, she turned to her friends and said, “Thank God we went at the right time.” They nodded in agreement as the group of them rushed back to their seats during the break.

Angelina Jolie is not here for your line-cutting horseplay

Generally, the bathroom is the place where you get your business done and get out. But at the Golden Globes, L’Oréal was hosting a glam lounge, where show attendees could get their makeup touched up and their hair fluffed to keep that camera-ready glow all night long. While standing in yet another marathon bathroom line, a boisterous group of women loudly cut past everyone patiently waiting for entry — and they did so directly in front of Jolie, whose film First They Killed My Father was up for Best Motion Picture — Foreign Language. The mom of six, whose date was son Pax, reacted to the nonsense with a healthy — if slightly icy — dose of side-eye and seemed willing to ignore it … until the women basically stood directly in her path and blathered on at top volume about the opportunities that awaited them in the glam lounge. The more the women yapped, the less amused la Jolie seemed to be. Finally, she was saved from the riffraff when a bathroom stall opened up, freeing her from the line — and the loud glam-related conversation from the line cutters.

Yvonne Strahovski doesn’t do a mirror check

Standard bathroom procedure dictates that once you’re done washing your hands, the next step is to perform a mirror check — make sure your makeup is still on point, your hair is still doing what it’s supposed to, and your dress is still fitting in all the right places. Once you give yourself the visual once-over and a resounding thumbs-up, you’re safe to head back out in public. But the Handmaid’s Tale actress is a rebel — she doesn’t do any of those things. She’s all business — in and out in a flash with nary a glance at her reflection, even in the full-length mirror on the way out the door. Sometimes, perfection is just perfection — no mirror check required.
