Angel Olsen Covers “Mr. Lonely”: Listen

Back in July, the first trailer for Miranda July’s latest film KAJILLIONAIRE was released. The clip included a snippet of Angel Olsen covering Bobby Vinton’s 1962 classic “Mr. Lonely” along with film’s composer Emile Mosseri. Now, the track has been released in full. Hear it below.

The KAJILLIONAIRE soundtrack arrives September 25. The film—which is written and directed by July—follows a family of con-artists and a “desperate, hastily conceived heist” involving a stranger.

In a statement about her involvement with the film, Angel Olsen wrote, “Suddenly there she was. THE MIRANDA JULY. In my text messages.” Olsen continued:

She was working on songs with Emile for the upcoming film KAJILLIONAIRE, which at the time I knew nothing about. I just so happened to be in Los Angeles. So I met with them both, and we talked about cadence and we talked about life and we talked about the film. And Miranda directed me to sing the cover in the way she and Emile thought it would represent the feelings behind the film. It was a lovely experience. Later, Miranda and I went outside for a little break and we did a little improv with each other. Just us.

Last month, Angel Olsen released her latest album Whole New Mess. Read Pitchfork’s feature interview “Angel Olsen Is at a Crossroads, Again.”
