Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor has shared his first solo album in over 30 years, Man’s a Wolf to Man. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.
Taylor began writing Man’s a Wolf to Man in 2016 or 2017 — “the beginning of the chaos,” as he put it in a statement. The record was ultimately delayed by COVID-19, so in addition to addressing political unrest and a global pandemic, it was also influenced by the artist’s prostate cancer, which he learned during that time was terminal.
“Man’s a Wolf to Man is pretty apt now,” Taylor said. “Having lived there, had kids there, had an amazing career there, I know America very well. And when you watch the breakdown, and the extremes of it, how quickly people became vicious enemies.”
The artist continued, “[It’s] about how man is his own worst enemy and will behave like a pack of wolves towards his other human enemy. What we saw bubbling when I started writing, it was all about getting even — why do you get so mad trying to get even? Why do people get angry? Why don’t they just do better themselves? I was getting back to making records that are human, about something that mattered or matters, that are in the moment.”
Pick up physical copies of Man’s a Wolf to Man here. The LP marks Taylor’s first release under his own name since 1990’s Dangerous; since then, he’s released records with Duran Duran, The Power Station, Rod Stewart, and Tina Arena.
Taylor’s first band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, and even though he wasn’t able to attend the ceremony, he vowed to “live life” despite his cancer diagnosis. In August, Taylor revealed that he has been treated with an innovative cancer drug that has “extended my life for five years.”
On top of that, Duran Duran revealed earlier this year that Taylor would play on a new album in the works from the group. The band (sans Taylor) is on the road right now, and tickets are on sale here.
