The first great mystery of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been solved.

While fans got a glimpse of new stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac in Friday’s teaser trailer, it was unclear which actor provided the brief, ominous voiceover.

It was just three lines, but they were particularly important, and absent of any information or clues from mystery-loving director J.J. Abrams, speculation ran rampant. Many fans were convinced that the voice belonged to Benedict Cumberbatch, who was never listed as a cast member. But Sherlock it was not!

Instead it was Andy Serkis who provided the narration, as the actor himself confirmed to Empire magazine on Monday.

“I can confirm that, yes, absolutely,” he said, adding, “I’m sure Benedict doesn’t need any more attention at the moment, for goodness sake!”

Well, there you go. Though we don’t know how the man who brought The Lord of the Rings’ Gollum and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Caesar to life factors into the film, we do know it is he who utters these lines: “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?… The dark side… and the light.”
