The time has come to bid adieu to 2022.

Celebrity controversies consumed social media, with the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial, that infamous Oscars slap, Queen Elizabeth's death, and many more pop culture moments to count.

Now it's time to reflect on the year behind us and look ahead to 2023. Here's how celebrities rang in the New Year.

Valerie Bertinelli rings in first New Year since Tom Vitale divorce: 'I'm free'

Valerie Bertinelli took to Instagram on New Year's Day to share that the holiday is "coming in so much happier than last year’s."

"From a young age, New Year’s Day has been one of my absolute favorite days, for the last 5-6 years it’s been one of the saddest," Bertinelli wrote, captioning a video of herself twirling outside to Taylor Swift's "Clean." "No more."

She continued: "There is so much to look forward to now, when before it just looked endlessly sad, scary, lonely and stressful. I have no idea what’s ahead for me and I’m not worried. I’m free. This new years day, 2023, is the first day of the rest of my life!"

The last year saw a major life change for the Food Network star, who shared in a Twitter video in November that her divorce from financial planner Tom Vitale was finalized. She said at the time she was "happily divorced."

Bertinelli married Vitale in January 2011. Nearly nine years after their nuptials, they separated in December 2019 and filed for legal separation in November 2021. Bertinelli was previously married to rocker Eddie Van Halen, who died in October 2020 and with whom she shares son Wolfgang.

Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper address CNN's no-drinking rule

Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper brought some comedic relief sans booze during CNN's "New Year's Eve Live" special.

"They brought us back for another year," Cohen boasted at the top of CNN's coverage from Times Square in New York, adding there were "some stipulations this year, some fine print."

Ahead of the New Year's Eve celebrations, CNN's new CEO, Chris Licht, reportedly called for coverage with less booze. On Thursday, Cohen confirmed to Page Six that he and Cooper would not be drinking during this year's broadcast.

"So we should talk about the elephant in the room," Cohen quipped Saturday in a clip shared on social media of CNN's broadcast. "We can't drink, alright! We can't drink. But it's fine. It's totally cool."

"I don't normally drink, so it's not a big deal for me," Cooper chimed in, before asking Cohen if he was "going to be able to make it" through the night.

"That's the question. We will see," Cohen replied. "Do I have a pocket full of edibles? I do. Will I take them? I don't think so. I don't know, it's a long night. This is a telethon with no disease, do you understand? We're here all night passing time."

To bear the alcohol ban, Cohen and Cooper took shots of mystery liquid, ranging from pickle juice, buttermilk and apple cider vinegar.

"We will take a shot, and then we will guess what it was," Cohen said, explaining the rules of the toasting game.

"Honestly, this is no different to me because alcohol, to me, all tastes disgusting," Cooper added.

After the show, both Cohen and Anderson took to Instagram to reflect on the night.

"Booze or no booze, when you get to spend it with friends that’s what counts!" Cohen wrote alongside a clip of the duo singing and celebrating.

In a more serious post from Cooper, he recalled how New Year's Eve as a child had been "infused with sadness" after his dad died five days into January.

"I still feel that sadness, that loss on this night, but being able to spend it with my friend Andy, and with all of you who tune in, and going home afterwards to a home where my two boys are asleep in their cribs and will wake up in the morning laughing and joyful…it’s become a very different night for me… and I am grateful," he wrote.
