Andrew Garfield says he's taking a break from acting to 'be a bit ordinary'

Andrew Garfield has announced that he is taking a break from acting to “be a bit ordinary" for a while.

The actor, 38, had a lot of big projects last year and has just been through awards season, after being nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his performance in Tick, Tick… Boom!

And he said it is now time for him to "rest" and "recalibrate".

He told Variety: "I’m going to rest for a little bit. I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for a while. Because as you know, that is a washing machine, that awards season.”

“I need to just be a bit ordinary for a while," added the star.

Garfield has been very busy of late, with a string of major roles.

As well as playing composer Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick… Boom! he reprised the role of Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He also appeared in the biopic The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, playing American televangelist Jim Bakker, and he starred in the comedy drama Mainstream.

The star has also been busy working on eagerly anticipated new true crime drama TV television miniseries Under The Banner Of Heaven.

The series is based on the book by Jon Krakauer and was adapted by screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

It sees Garfield plays a Mormon detective investigating the murder of a mother and her baby, which was committed by followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He told Variety that because of the nature of the material those working on the show “had to keep on taking care of ourselves” and that it was necessary for them to take time off for game nights and to enjoy some swimming and hiking.

Under The Banner Of Heaven also stars Sam Worthington and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
