Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and his wife Veronica Berti Bocelli know a thing or two about how to make a relationship last.

The pair, who met in 2002 when Andrea serenaded her with a special aria, dated for more than a decade before marrying. Now Veronica works as Andrea's manager — and even an occasional duet partner!

Ten years after they met, the couple welcomed a daughter, Virginia, and officially got married two years later, in 2014. Veronica is also a stepmother to Andrea's two sons from a previous marriage, Amos and Matteo.

According to Veronica, the secret to their long partnership is simple: they depend on one another. "We've lived together almost 22 years now, and, at least at the beginning, spent 24 hours a day [together]," Veronica told PEOPLE in March 2023. "Sometimes we don't necessarily agree on the path, but we always agree on the aim. We rely on each other."

"A successful relationship between two people is an art," Andrea wrote in a 2014 story for The Guardian, adding that music has an important role in his life with Veronica. "It is chemistry at play. There has to be a fatal attraction or boredom takes over, but the art lies in preserving this chemical fatal attraction and keeping it alive."

Andrea and Veronica wasted no time falling in love; he even serenaded her upon their first meeting.

"Veronica and I met at a party 12 years ago, and I was struck by her voice and how her skin felt. I sang my first aria for her that night. It was a piece called 'Occhi Di Fata (Fairy's Eyes),' " Andrea wrote in The Guardian in 2014. "Everybody was there; it was a really wonderful moment between us ... Effectively the marriage began when we met." Andrea shared that they even moved in together that night.

Veronica was 18 at the time, but Andrea has said that the couple's 25-year age gap has never been an issue. "I think the 25-year age gap has made it easier, not harder. Big age gaps are a tradition in my family — my own father and mother have one," Andrea explained in The Guardian.

There was no rush to the altar for the couple, who dated for more than a decade before getting married in 2014. Andrea was previously married to Enrica Cenzatti from 1992 to 2002 and has two sons, Amos and Matteo, from that relationship.

"I got so used to not being married that it was strange when we finally did," Veronica explained of their eventual marriage in The Guardian. "We used to call each other 'companion,' but that sounded too everyday. Wife is forever."

Veronica is the mother of Andrea's third child, Virginia, who was born in 2012. Veronica is also the stepmother to Andrea's two children from his previous marriage.

Virginia is already following in her father's musical footsteps and even performed with him (and her big brother Matteo) on the holiday album A Family Christmas.

"My dad taught me how to use my voice, and that influenced my life," Virginia told PEOPLE in 2022 of working with her dad. Andrea added that his daughter sounds like a "true angel" when she sings.

After over 10 years of dating and welcoming their daughter Virginia in 2012, Andrea and Veronica made it official, getting married in an intimate ceremony at the Sanctuary of Montenero in Livorno, Italy. The couple married on March 21, 2014 — their daughter's second birthday.

Veronica wore a white silk gown by Ermanno Scervino with her dark hair worn in loose curls down her back, and Andrea wore a blue Corneliani suit. Only their closest friends and family were present for the nuptials.

The tenor opened up about his relationship with his longtime partner and the magic that keeps their love alive to PEOPLE in 2018. "If there's chemistry between two people, then there is poetry, there is harmony, there is mutual understanding — there is love; if not, nothing," he said.

According to the musician, their physical connection is of utmost importance. "If the bedroom door opens the world to something beautiful and interesting, then love will last. If the bedroom door opens onto something that's boring or uninteresting, it won't last," he said.

Andrea purchased Villa Alpemare, a pink seaside mansion on the coast of Tuscany, in the late 1990s. The sprawling estate used to be a hotel, and Andrea completely restored it to its former glory. "As I travel so often, the best vacation I can think of is always within the walls of my home, surrounded by the love of my family, and friends who come to visit me," the singer told Architectural Digest in 2019.

Andrea called the villa his “elegant yet unpretentious house." He continued, "[It’s] a welcoming home that is large enough for us to live and work in, make music, and host many friends.”

The singer and his wife certainly use it to its full extent, designating each floor to its own purpose. The first is for entertaining, the second for Andrea's personal music studio and the third for his family's private quarters.

The longtime couple took fans on a scenic trip through Italy with their 2023 film The Journey: A Music Special from Andrea Bocelli, which shows the pair traveling through their home country on horseback and stopping to perform with artists like Tori Kelly and Tauren Wells. According to Veronica, the idea was born during the COVID-19 pandemic because of Andrea's restlessness.

"Right after the pandemic, what Andrea really wanted was just to ride on top of the horse and not stop until both of them were tired," Veronica told PEOPLE in March 2023. "We travel the whole world and don't necessarily know what's right next to us, so it was very peculiar to see beautiful places that the rest of the world comes to visit."

While Andrea is an experienced rider, Veronica was less so, but she persevered on the over 150-mile trip. "This showed me the importance of 'If there's a will, there's a way,' and that the woman beside me has enormous willpower," Andrea told PEOPLE of his wife's dedication.
