Although André 3000 did not enlist Big Boi for his latest album, he made sure to play it for his Outkast partner, gaining approval of the music before its release.

Speaking with High Snobiety, the 48-year-old revealed details of his process in creating and releasing his instrumental project New Blue Sun.

“He was smiling… He was like, ‘Man…,’” the Georgia native shared of Big Boi’s reaction. He continued to detail who else enjoyed a preview of the experimental album ahead of its debut, including his son.

“I was in Tyler’s [the Creator] living room listening to it, and then Frank [Ocean] just shows up. And so we’re all sitting there listening to it. I’m wondering what the young people’s opinions would be. And I’m so happy that what I’m hearing is really good feedback.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the “Hey Ya!” performer discussed additional creative ventures beyond music, including his upcoming workwear line.

“Whenever I’m on the street, at least for a month, whenever I see someone with overalls on, they’re going to get a free pair. Because I know they’re overall lovers. It takes a certain person to wear overalls. They’re like grown-people baby clothes. They feel very comfortable — that’s why I love them,” shared the Grammy Award-winning artist.

As for new music, André 3000 elaborated on what’s next and if he will release fan-coveted rap songs.

“It’s very intimate. With rap, with an OutKast song, people know the beat, and I can hide behind the beat. With this, you can’t hide behind anything,” shared the flutist. “I don’t even call them songs. They’re almost like formations, like you’re hearing something as it’s happening. It’s a living, breathing sound exploration.”

He also detailed, “I would love to make a rap album. I just think it’d be an awesome challenge to do a fire-ass album at 48 years old. That’s probably one of the hardest things to do! I would love to do that.
