André 3000 And IMAX Announce ‘New Blue Sun’ Listening Experience Event

André 3000’s New Blue Sun album is coming to the big screen as part of a special “cinematic” listening session.
On Tuesday (Jan. 16), the Outkast rapper’s company, A Myriad of Pyramids, and IMAX announced André 3000: New Blue Sun IMAX Live Experience, a one-night-only event taking place on Jan. 23.
According to the poster, which was shared in a joint post by A Myriad of Pyramids and IMAX on Instagram, André 3000 is slated to partake in a Q&A session via livestream during the event. The session will be screened in 22 IMAX movie theaters across the country.
“Join André 3000 in celebrating the release of his genre-leaping debut solo album, New Blue Sun, with an album listening cinematic experience and live Q&A,” reads a description of the event on the IMAX website.
“Directed by Terence Nance, witness André’s fusion of improv creativity and musical exploration in vivid detail and unparalleled sound quality through the IMAX Live Experience, blending captivating visuals and instrumentation.”
Released on Nov. 17, 2023, New Blue Sun marked Andre 3000’s debut solo album and first full-length release since Outkast’s 2006 album Idlewild. Described as “experimental flute music,” New Blue Sun garnered critical acclaim despite disappointment over the project being devoid of any rapping.
The album’s opening track “I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time,” made history after becoming the lengthiest track to ever appear on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
