Anderson Cooper expresses 'regret' for comparing Trump to 'obese turtle'

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper has one "regret" from his presidential election coverage.

On Saturday, Cooper admitted that he was disappointed in himself for comparing President Donald Trump to an "obese turtle" earlier in the week.

"I should say that I regret using those words because that’s not the person I really want to be," Cooper said.

On Thursday, following Trump's falsehood-laden speech where he wrongly claimed victory in the presidential race, Cooper unleashed a strong reaction.

"That is the president of the United States," Cooper said on live television. "That is the most powerful person in the world. And we see him like an obese turtle on his back flailing in the hot sun, realizing his time is over."

His comments quickly went viral, eliciting both cheers and jeers.

Cooper's remarks even came up during an interview with former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang on Saturday after Joe Biden was declared the next president.

When Cooper asked Yang about Trump's refusal to concede, Yang responded: "I’m happy to say, it seems like Trump is going to be, in your words, an obese turtle on his back, just flailing around, Anderson."

Cooper used the moment to walk back his original statement.

"It was in the heat of the moment, and I regret it," Cooper declared Saturday.
