Anderson Cooper calls out Ivanka Trump following the president's comments on Jewish Americans

On Wednesday, CNN’s Anderson Cooper opened his show, Anderson Cooper 360, by slamming President Trump for some recent comments he made about Jewish Americans. The president made multiple claims that American Jews, specifically those who are Democrats, are disloyal.

On Tuesday, Trump told White House reporters, “Any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat — I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.” And then on Wednesday, Trump doubled-down, saying, “If you want to vote Democrat, you are being very disloyal to Jewish people and very disloyal to Israel.”

Cooper was offended by Trump’s comments, saying, “It should be noted that throughout history, calling Jews disloyal has been a common anti-Semitic trope. It’s been a pretext to exclude Jews or take their businesses or put them in ghettos or expel them or expel them from schools exterminate them.”

Trump also took to Twitter, quoting conspiracy theorist Wayne Allyn Root, he tweeted: “President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel ... like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God. ... But American Jews don’t know him or like him.”

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, is Jewish. So Cooper wondered what her reaction to her father’s recent claims might be. “Ivanka Trump must be very proud of her dad tonight and you probably can just watch for an Ivanka leak in the coming days, about how she tried to talk her father, you know, to change that kinda language,” Cooper mused, “It's a classic Ivanka move.” While Cooper didn’t get into specifics, Ivanka does have a history and downplaying her father’s offensive rhetoric.

AC360 airs weeknights at 8 p.m. on CNN.
