Amy Winehouse Biopic ‘Back to Black’ Sets May 2024 Release in Cinemas

Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black is getting a high profile release in cinemas across the country on May 10, Focus Features announced Tuesday.

Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the film from a script by Matt Greenhalgh following their successful collaboration on 2009’s Nowhere Boy.

The movie promises to provide a never-before-seen glimpse into Amy Winehouse’s early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album, Back to Black. Winehouse, who died in 2011, is widely considered one of the greatest artists in recent history, selling more than 30 million records worldwide.

Focus will distribute Back to Back in the U.S., with Universal Pictures International handling international distribution, excluding the UK, France, Germany, Aus/NZ, Benelux, Scandinavia and Poland, which will be handled by StudioCanal.

Universal’s partners on the film are Monumental Pictures and StudioCanal, which guided the project. Back to Black is receiving support from Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing and The Amy Winehouse Estate.

Alison Owen and Debra Hayward of Monumental Pictures are producing, with Nicky Kentish-Barnes, Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin executive producing.
